GD Chair says opposition's frequent discussion about Ivanishvili reveals their panic
Irakli Kobakhidze, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has stated that the opposition’s frequent discussion about Bidzina Ivanishvili reveals their panic.
According to him, Ivanishvili’s return has caused despair among the opposition.
“In fact, they have a very good reason and basis for this. I would like to recall how Bidzina Ivanishvili’s entry into politics ended in 2011, as well as his return to politics in 2018. You remember, in 2011, they believed the National Movement was quite solid and nothing threatened their positions. They believed raiding television stations, business racketeering, and torture of people, would continue. However, within a year of entering politics, Bidzina Ivanishvili managed to do what absolutely everyone thought was impossible – he changed the authoritarian government in this country and established a completely different system. In one year, he achieved what people thought was impossible.
In 2018, you remember, there were difficulties, I don’t want to go into depth, Bidzina Ivanishvili returned to politics and in two years, in 2020, it ended with Georgian Dream convincingly winning the elections once again and the plans of the collective National Movement were disrupted.
In this case too, of course, Bidzina Ivanishvili’s return to politics only means the further strengthening of the Georgian Dream. Therefore, it is absolutely logical for the opposition to panic. In fact, it is not in their interest to talk about Bidzina Ivanishvili every day, to express this fear every day, but they are so emotional that they cannot but help talking about Bidzina Ivanishvili, they are in a complete panic,” Kobakhidze declared.
