GD Chair says Foreign Agents bill brought results without enforcement
The so-called Foreign Agents bill brought more results without enforcement than it could bring if activated, said Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party at the briefing.
The GD Chair summed up the last week’s developments in Georgia.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill served different purposes, among them is the recognition that being an agent is disgraceful.
“Being an agent is disgraceful, whoever agent of North, West, South or East a person may be,” he said.
Kobakhidze went on to say that society now better differentiates foreign influence agents from people’s influence agents.
“It became obvious that the organizations which are involved in anti-state activities such as demanding the resignation of the government from a stage, trying to implement the Bakuriani plot or insult the church, lead LGBT propaganda, object to the country’s energy independence are foreign agents,” Kobakhidze said.
The GD Chair added that the Georgian Dream acted based on humanity by deciding to withdrawal the bill.
With the vote held on March 10, the Georgian parliament officially withdrew the People’s Power-tabled Transparency of Foreign Influence bill.
