“There have always been and will continue to be questions about why the Kodori Valley was surrendered and why it was renamed Upper Abkhazia a few months before the war,” stated Irakli Garibashvili, Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
He stated that the Georgian Dream refrained from discussing these issues publicly for years to focus on winning court proceedings and achieving their objectives.
Garibashvili emphasized, “Even a child knows that Georgia could not have started a war on its own territory. But there are too many ambiguities regarding the surrender of the Kodori Valley. It was a region not previously claimed by separatist Abkhazians, yet within five days, it was handed over to the occupiers without resistance. This is a crucial issue that remains unexplained, and it’s unacceptable to dismiss such questions.”
