GD Chair: If anyone is ready for EU membership in 2030, it will be Georgia

“If anyone is ready for EU membership in 2030, it will be Georgia due to the policy, which our government carries out,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

According to Kobakhidze, naming the year 2030 was interesting because some countries received candidate status 12-18 years ago but are not members yet. As for Georgia, the country does its best to receive the status.

“We have progress in the fulfillment of 12-point recommendations, and the process will be completed in the near future. We will be upfront to being granted candidate status in December. The political decision is always 50/50, but let us see,” he said.

The European Union must be ready to admit new member states by 2030, European Council President Charles Michel told a forum in the Slovenian lake resort of Bled on Monday. “We will take a stand on the opening of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, and I also expect Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia to be back on the table,” Michel said.
