GD Chair hopes US-Georgia relations to improve during new US Ambassador's term
Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze said he hoped that problems that emerged in Georgia-US relations in the past would be resolved during the new ambassador’s term.
Kobakhidze noted that “appropriate cooperation” with the United States was significant for the Georgian government.
“We are ready to collaborate, and everything will be sufficiently secured on our end. In terms of circumventing sanctions, there is no such fact acknowledged by the international community, even though Ukrainian government members, high-ranking officials, and radical opposition politicians in Georgia accuse us of it,” he stated.
Irakli Kobakhidze said that the Georgian government acts with full responsibility, and it will continue so.
Robin Dunnigan, Nominee for US Ambassador to Georgia, said Thursday the Georgian government wants to comply with the international sanctions against Russia.
“Georgia absolutely should understand that we do not want to continue to fund the sanctions evasion, Russia’s war machine and its military for future aggression,” she said.
US President Joe Biden nominated Robin Dunnigan for the post of a new US Ambassador to Georgia in February. She will replace Kelly Degnan, who has been serving as the US Ambassador to Georgia since 2020.
