GD Chair expects EU accession talks for Georgia to open in December 2024

Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party chair, anticipates the EU accession talks for Georgia will be initiated in December 2024.

According to the GD Chair, the government works on the European Commission’s newly defined nine steps’ fulfilment.

“Ukraine and Moldova were granted candidate status last June, and negotiations opened in a year and a half for these countries. In our case, we believe negotiations will open much earlier based on the information from our European partners.

The discussion on this issue is scheduled for December at the European Commission and European Council level, one year after granting the status. The work is in progress, and we hope negotiations on accession will open in a year,” Kobakhidze said in the Tavisufali Khedva (Free Vision) Program of GPB’s First Channel.
