GD Chair deems EPP resolution as unjustified

“Resolutions of the European People’s Party (EPP) have no value for us. I think the EPP has not been updated about Mikheil Saakashvili’s (jailed ex-president) health,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party chair.

According to the GD Chair, the resolution has no justification.

“I cannot make a serious remark when everyone knows this man is healthy, and the European People’s Party has not even heard about it. This is an absolutely impractical text.

We understand that the European People’s Party and the United National Movement are one political group, a union. The UNM is a member of the EPP. Therefore, there is no justification for such a resolution, though it could be spelt out,” he said.

The EPP Political Assembly on November 14 adopted a resolution, calling on the Georgian authorities to take urgent measures to protect Mikheil Saakashvili’s health and his immediate release.
