The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) is developing an information portal that will present prices and offers for basic goods included in the government’s Family Basket program.

According to the agency, the initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s program and follows recommendations from the Parliamentary Temporary Commission studying the pricing structure of food products, medicines, and fuel.

Under the plan, retail chains participating in the program will be required to submit weekly data to the agency on the best available offers and prices for essential products. This information will then be published and regularly updated on a centralized electronic platform designed as a digital “basket.”

GCCA Chairman Irakli Lekvinadze said the platform aims to improve consumer awareness and ensure greater transparency of market offers.

He added that the electronic system is expected to strengthen competition in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector by making pricing information more accessible to the public.

The agency noted that it has been monitoring the FMCG market since 2023 to assess the level of competition. It also referenced the work of the parliamentary commission, which analyzed pricing trends for food products, medicines, and fuel and produced recommendations for short-, medium-, and long-term measures to support market competition.
