Gakharia’s Buchukuri: Elections belong to Georgian citizens, as sole source of legitimacy, not GD

“Elections belong to Georgian citizens as the sole source of legitimacy, not to the ruling Georgian Dream party,” Ana Buchukuri, a member of the opposition Gakharia for Georgia party, stated.

According to Buchukuri, elections are scheduled by the Constitution of Georgia and do not belong to Irakli Kobakhidze.

“The constitution belongs to Georgian citizens, elections are enshrined in Georgia’s constitution, elections do not belong to the Georgian Dream, elections belong to Georgian citizens as the sole source of legitimacy,” Buchukuri declared.

“No matter how much Kobakhidze tries to present it as if the constitution or elections belong to Kobakhidze, he can stand in front of a mirror and tell himself that, but in reality, this is the property of Georgian citizens,” Buchukuri added.

Responding to the consistency of specific decisions made by opposition figures, Buchukuri acknowledged that consistency remains a challenge across Georgia’s political spectrum, though she declined to comment on other parties’ actions.

“In general, consistency is a challenge in Georgia’s political so-called elite, both from the government side and in the opposition. However, I don’t want to talk about others. For a political party, it requires great effort to be consistent. We founded the party in May 2021, and if you take out the archive from then, I’m really proud that I represent the most consistent party. In Georgia, it’s easy to deviate from this consistency. Inconsistency is a major challenge in the Georgian political spectrum, but ask those who make inconsistent decisions,” Buchukuri noted.
