Gakharia for Georgia party to likely participate in October 3 by-elections, to announce final decision on August 17

Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, believes that elections are an important political tool to change the government, even if this concerns local elections through which issues of local significance can be solved.

According to Sharashidze, the political board will review the party’s participation in by-elections and announce the decision on August 17.

When asked whether the party planned to cooperate with Lelo as it happened ahead of the 2025 local self-government elections, Giorgi Sharshidze replied: “I do not rule out this model.”

“However, due to holding elections only in 4 election precincts, which, in fact, means one MP in each municipality, I do not know. We will decide at the political council. Actually, to say that the situation today is the same as it was during the 2025 local elections would be incorrect. However, nothing can be ruled out,” he said.

Municipal council by-elections will be held in Vani, Tsalka, Dmanisi, and Akhmeta on October 3, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) announced on August 14.

A party interested in participating in the elections, namely one that was registered for the last parliamentary elections and has a representative in the Parliament of Georgia as of the day the elections are called, or was registered for the last municipal elections, must submit an application to the election administration no later than August 17.
