“Gia, you do not know what it feels like to lose a brother or a family member in war, yet you speak on behalf of them. I am one of those whose brother was killed in the war. Did I become embittered? Did I develop a desire for revenge or hostility? Ask others who have lost family members in the war: have you ever heard them express feelings of hatred or hostility?” wrote former defence minister Giorgi Karkarashvili on social networks.

Giorgi Karkarashvili urges Giorgi Baramidze to admit the mistake and apologize without any exceptions.

According to Karkarashvili, in his book Motherland, he refers to the Abkhazians as adversaries rather than enemies, and called on Baramidze to admit that he did not know the reality and to read his book to “learn about the capture and release of prisoners.”

For context, the Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into high treason and sabotage in connection with UNM member Giorgi Baramidze’s statement.

The investigation concerns comments made by one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Gia Baramidze, who claimed that “during the war in Abkhazia, Georgian soldiers executed prisoners, which is why the Abkhaz side refused to hand over captives.”
