Foreign Relations Committee Chair urges EU to monitor companies: Certain European companies attempt to use Georgia to circumvent sanctions
“I would like to remind not only the opposition, but also the European Union itself, that since 2022, the Georgian Revenue Service has suspended several thousand operations of cargo originating from the European Union that were supposed to enter Russia to circumvent sanctions,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
According to him, attempts to use Georgia to circumvent sanctions are always present, including, to a large extent, by European companies.
“They should be kind and, first of all, look after their companies that are trying to circumvent sanctions. As for the government, they are at the height of their task, trying to check all cargo and filter it for sanctions, and then give the green light to this or that transport operation. We have declared this policy since 2022 and are purposefully following its implementation. If there is any problem, we are always ready to discuss it,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
