Foreign Relations Committee Chair: UNM attempts to cover up past actions; after 2008 war, they welcomed Russian tourists at Larsi border with open arms and wine bottles

“The National Movement can follow any narrative against Georgia. They did that after the 2024 elections when they joined the campaign of Georgia’s ill-wishers against the country,” Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, told GPB First Channel.

According to Samkharadze, the previous government sold strategic facilities to Russia.

“Given that, unlike in 2008, the entire world now calls Russia an aggressor, and Russia is already designated as such, the National Movement has simply followed the prevailing trend. It attempts to cover up past actions: just recall how, after the 2008 war, they welcomed Russian tourists at the Larsi border with open arms and wine bottles in their hands.

Perhaps we also remember the letters through which they were requesting restoration of economic relations. Thus, their dual face has once again become obvious, demonstrating to society that, for them, the prevailing narrative is foremost rather than state interests.
