Foreign Relations Committee Chair: If Enlargement Commission resumes contact with Georgia, it will see that the country is ahead of Ukraine and Moldova in many aspects
“We have heard many statements, including from Madam Marta Kos, that they do not like the Georgian government and refuse to communicate with the Georgian authorities. The statement of Marta Kos should be viewed in that context,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Samkharadze, European partners do not have the information on where Georgia stands.
“This is their problem. The Commission has been in close communication with public officials and ministries for many years. Therefore, they knew the steps taken by the government. Today, they lack information as communication is limited. If the Enlargement Commission resumes contact with Georgia, it will see that the country outruns Ukraine and Moldova in many aspects. Her statement has political context.
We have heard many statements, including from Madam Marta Kos, that they do not like the Georgian government and refuse to communicate with the Georgian authorities. The statement by Marta Kos should be viewed in that context. This is the continuation of their attitude. They have to justify their stance of not talking to Georgia somehow, and these are precisely the methods they use to justify it,” Samkharadze said.
On October 6, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said in response to a question from a Georgian reporter: “Georgia is a candidate country on paper only; I regret this. I wish Georgia, with the huge support of the Georgian people, were today at the same level as Moldova and Ukraine.”
