Foreign Relations Committee Chair: Black Sea submarine cable is geopolitical project
The Black Sea submarine cable project holds strategic significance not only for Georgia but also for the European Union, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, stated.
According to Samkharadze, the European Commission’s decision to grant the project the status of a Project of Mutual Interest is a highly positive development.
“This is a geopolitical project that will connect the Georgian and European energy systems. We welcome this decision. It is good when the European Union makes a logical decision based on its own strategic interests. Such steps will always have our support,” Samkharadze said.
The European Commission has officially granted the Black Sea submarine cable project — designed to link the electricity networks of Georgia and the EU — the status of a project of mutual interest, ensuring it will receive strategic, legal, and financial support from the Union.
