Foreign national arrested in Georgia with nearly 12 kg of marijuana

Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance arrested a foreign national on charges of illegally purchasing, possessing and importing a particularly large quantity of narcotic drugs into Georgia.

Law enforcement officers conducted a detailed inspection of a truck driven by the suspect at the Lagodekhi Border Crossing Point. During the inspection, they found nearly 12 kilograms of marijuana, packaged in two bundles, hidden in a specially constructed compartment inside the vehicle’s cabin.

An investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
