Foreign national arrested for circulating large quantities of counterfeit currency

Officers of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Prosecutor’s Office, have arrested a foreign national on suspicion of circulating large quantities of counterfeit currency.

The investigation established that the suspect was circulating counterfeit $50 and $100 bills in the Adjara region for the purpose of obtaining unlawful financial gain.

In total, the suspect allegedly circulated 231 counterfeit banknotes with a face value of $13,400, including 194 $50 bills and 37 $100 bills.

All counterfeit banknotes were seized during investigative actions.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
