Foreign Ministers of Austria, Romania and Lithuania arrive in Georgia
Foreign Ministers of Austria, Romania and Lithuania arrived in Georgia. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, mandated EU three foreign ministers’ visit to the South Caucasus region on June 25-26.
Alexander Schallenberg, Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria, Lithuanian FM Gabrielius Landsbergis and Romanian FM Bogdan Aurescu will focus on the regional security risks and territorial conflict-related threats during the Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia tour.
According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, EU three FMs will hold meetings with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili and Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani. The Ministers will also visit the occupation line. At the end of the visit, they will make statements and summarize the results of the South Caucasus tour.
The decision on the Foreign Ministers’ visit to the Caucasus was made on May 27 at an informal ministerial of EU member states which discussed the conflicts in the Eastern Partnership region.
“The visit of the three EU Foreign Ministers to Georgia under the auspices of the High Representative of the European Commission for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borrell underscores the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus and the EU’s involvement in the peaceful settlement of conflicts,” Foreign Ministry said.
