Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, is on an official visit to Malaysia. As part of the visit, Samkharadze met with the Deputy Speaker of the Malaysian Senate, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee of the House of Representatives, Wong Chen.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations in the political, trade, education, and tourism sectors. Samkharadze expressed gratitude to his Malaysian counterparts for their continued support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“During the meetings, we discussed the importance of the parliamentary dimension of ASEAN as a platform for Georgia to enhance its ties with Southeast Asian countries. We also emphasized the dynamic development of bilateral relations and the potential for future investments,” Samkharadze noted.

The talks also addressed regional security challenges. The Georgian side briefed Malaysian officials on the situation in the territories occupied by Russia, the security dynamics in the Black Sea region, and the broader implications of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on the South Caucasus.

In turn, Malaysian representatives shared insights into the economic and political situation across Southeast Asia, highlighting the negative impact of U.S.–China trade tariffs on ASEAN economies.
