For Georgia's Sharashidze: OSCE visit important, but Georgian politics should be decided at home
Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, said that during a meeting with a high-level delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the delegates were interested in the parliamentary activities of his party.
Sharashidze noted that the goal of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly delegation is to activate political dialogue in Georgia.
“The future of Georgian politics should be decided within Georgia. In this regard, we do not have special expectations from the visit of an international organization, but it is clear that the OSCE plays a very important role,” Sharashidze said.
“We discussed all the anti-democratic laws that the Georgian Dream is adopting. We also emphasized that, despite the critical conclusions and recommendations of the OSCE regarding the 2024 parliamentary elections — which Georgian Dream should have taken into account — the opposite occurred. Instead of implementing constructive measures, the election environment was worsened by these anti-democratic laws,” he noted.
“On one hand, they claim to take constructive steps, but on the other, they adopt completely anti-democratic laws. These actions are entirely inconsistent with their public statements,” he added.
