For Georgia’s Sharashidze: I call on Gvaramia not to make ambiguous statements on territorial integrity

“A strong Georgian state is inconceivable without our historic territories, Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia, and this is where the line must be drawn,” Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the For Georgia party, said.

According to Sharashidze, anyone who questions Georgia’s territorial integrity will receive an appropriate response, first and foremost from the Georgian people.

“Our position has always been, and remains today, that a strong Georgian state is inconceivable without our historic territories, Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia, and this is where the line must be drawn. If anyone questions this issue, they will receive an appropriate response, first and foremost from the Georgian people,” Sharashidze said.

He called on Nika Gvaramia to refrain from making ambiguous statements on what he described as an extremely sensitive and important issue concerning Georgia’s territorial integrity.

“I call on Nika Gvaramia not to make ambiguous and unclear statements on such a sensitive and critically important issue as the territorial integrity of our country, statements that could later be used by the Georgian Dream for its own benefit,” Sharashidze said.

“We believe that a strong state is inconceivable without Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region. This is our position, and I genuinely do not care what Nika Gvaramia says,” he added.

The statement comes after Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, said in an interview with Formula TV that he was impressed by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan because he had managed to overcome historical traumas, referring to the Karabakh conflict. “Actually, this is why I am impressed by Pashinyan — because he managed to overcome traumas. In reality, Karabakh was a surrender, wasn’t it? There was a war, of course, but ultimately Armenia said: ‘Take it away from me, take it,’” Gvaramia said.
