For Georgia's Parulava: Gov't is not capable of resetting relations with US
According to Giga Parulava, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, the current government is not capable of resetting relations with the United States.
Parulava said he has no positive expectations regarding the visit of the Georgian parliamentary delegation to the United States.
“We have little hope that they will be able to reset relations with our strategic partner during this visit. After taking a number of damaging steps, the government is no longer capable of correcting and resetting the current policy,” he said.
According to Parulava, the ruling team lacks both the political opportunity and competence to improve relations with the administration of Donald Trump.
“We sincerely wish success to our country in resetting relations not only with the United States but also with other strategic partners. However, we do not expect this outcome. Today, this political team is not capable of repairing the damaged political relations with the Trump administration,” Parulava stated.
He also questioned why Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, did not personally lead the delegation if there were a real chance to reset relations.
“Do you really think that if there had been an opportunity to reset relations between Georgia and the US through these meetings, Kobakhidze would have allowed this delegation to go without going himself?” Parulava said.
Parulava added that Georgia once had normal and strong relations with the United States, but according to him, there is currently “no sign” of such relations.
