For Georgia’s Khvedeliani: Lawsuit filed by GD came as no surprise to our team

“This was not unexpected for our team. We have always expected it because, today, we are dealing with an authoritarian regime,” Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the political council of the Gakharia for Georgia party, said regarding the constitutional lawsuit filed by Georgian Dream.

According to Khvedeliani, one of the reasons is what she described as recent developments concerning the occupied territories.

“There are several reasons for this. However, the first reason for us is the recent developments concerning the occupied territories. At a time when Georgian Dream’s policy is entirely built around apologizing and remaining silent, particularly when there is growing concern over the open and undisguised annexation processes involving our country’s territories and South Ossetia, we are trying to work proactively on this issue, draw the attention of our international partners and society to it, and consolidate their attention around the matter.

On September 18, when so-called elections are being held in South Ossetia and the main promise of one of the candidates is the return of our territory, Chorchana, and the unification of South and North Ossetia — something that, of course, serves the interests of occupant Russia — this was the reason why we were included in a specific lawsuit precisely now. This was not unexpected for us,” Khvedeliani said.

She also said the ruling team does not approve of their differing views.

“They do not like our different opinions. Despite the fact that they constantly create a violent and repressive environment, we manage to oppose them and remain outspoken. In this building, in Parliament, we brought back the voice of the people and a different opinion, which they do not like and which makes them uncomfortable. In many cases, they even lose their composure, as we saw during the parliamentary session on June 26, when, in our view, their incompetent prime minister was unable to answer questions and, to divert attention from this, their former general organized the violent incident carried out against our MPs,” Khvedeliani said.
