For Georgia urges gov’t to apply for fast-track EU membership

The opposition For Georgia party urges the government to officially apply for Georgia’s fast-track EU membership.

“It is high time to act. We should remind the world that expedited accession of Georgia and Ukraine in the European family is the right response to the Russian aggression,” the party representatives said at the news briefing held in the parliament.

For Georgia party leader Giorgi Gakharia applied to the government to use the historical chance and, in line with the Georgian Constitution, to launch official negotiations with Georgia’s partners on the accelerated procedure for EU membership.

“Unfortunately, in parallel with the unprecedented reaction of the world to the Russian aggression, the Georgian government is taking a position that directly harms the national interests of our country, goes against the will of the Georgian people and deprives our children of the prospect of a dignified future.

Today is the time for active action. We must remind the whole world that the right response to Russia’s aggression is the immediate accession of Georgia and Ukraine into the European family,” the party said in a statement.
