Football: Georgia and Armenia to host FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029 #1TVSPORT

At a meeting of FIFA’s ruling council held in Vancouver, Canada, ahead of the governing body’s 76th Congress, it was decided that Georgia and Armenia will jointly host the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2029.

The two nations submitted their joint bid to host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup in June 2024, with the announcement made at a press briefing in Yerevan, where the presidents of both the Georgian and Armenian football federations addressed the gathering.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup has been held every two years since 1977, with 24 teams competing in the final stage of the tournament.

It is worth noting that this will mark the first time in the history of independent Georgian football that Georgia has hosted a world-ranking tournament held under FIFA’s auspices.

Details regarding host cities, stadiums, and other organisational and technical arrangements connected to the tournament will be announced in due course.

Levan Kobiashvili, president of the Georgian Football Federation: “This is a momentous occasion, for the first time in the history of independent Georgian football, we will be hosting a world-ranking tournament held under the auspices of FIFA. This is a momentous event for both of our countries and for football worldwide. I am truly delighted that we will have the opportunity to collaborate on this important project. I offer my congratulations to every football supporter, and I am certain that this tournament will leave just as lasting a mark on the development of our game as those international tournaments we have had the privilege of hosting in the recent past.”
