Food safety tests confirm watermelon and melon samples are free of excessive nitrate levels

Georgia’s National Food Agency is routinely testing melons and watermelons in retail stores to monitor nitrate levels.

According to the National Food Agency, 50 samples of watermelon and melon taken from various retail outlets nationwide have to date been tested in an accredited laboratory under the State Monitoring Control Programme.

Test results confirm that nitrate levels across all tested samples remain strictly within statutory limits (60 mg/kg for watermelon; 90 mg/kg for melon).

Given the peak summer season, the National Food Agency will continue regular testing of cucurbit crops across the market.
