Inspectors from Georgia’s National Food Agency in the Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti region have uncovered an illegal meat and meat products production operation during an unannounced inspection.

According to the agency, the business operator was fined and production was suspended until the facility is officially registered.

The National Food Agency said that an individual identified by the initials N.T., operating in the village of Marani in Abasha Municipality, had been producing and selling meat and meat products without registering in the Registry of Economic Activities or obtaining the mandatory recognition required by the agency.

The products were reportedly marketed and sold, including through online platforms.

During the inspection, officials also identified other critical food safety violations and discovered meat of unknown origin.

The National Food Agency called on business operators to conduct their activities in compliance with Georgian legislation and established food safety requirements.
