Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, OSCE Chairman country, arrived in Georgia. He met Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.
At the meeting, the sides spoke about ongoing processes in the OSCE and facing challenges, OSCE’s participation in the Geneva International Discussions (GID), the situation across Georgia’s occupied Abkhazia ad Tskhinvali regions, the significance of adopting the law On Transparency of Foreign Influence and the government’s readiness to take into account the remarks of international partners within veto procedures.
The discussion also focused on the upcoming parliamentary elections. Ilia Darchiashvili stressed that the government aims to hold transparent, free and fair elections in line with international standards. He said the government would assist the international election observers in fulfilling their duties efficiently. The sides agreed on the continuation of cooperation.
Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta will also meet legislative authorities and representatives of civic society within the framework of his visit, which will be completed on May 15.
