FM: Georgia’s progress report under EU enlargement package to be support mechanism for EC’s decision on country

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Wednesday stated that Georgia’s progress report under the EU enlargement package would be “a very important support mechanism” for the European Commission to make a “relevant” decision on the nation and grant it the membership candidate status

Earlier today, FM Darchiashvili handed over a said report to EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, noting that the document reflected the Georgian Government’s “major moves” and the reforms on the EU integration path.

“We had a very interesting meeting. We talked about all the important steps that Georgia has taken and which are planned in order to fulfill the 12 points of the European Commission in the promised time and with the logic that is included in the recommendations. Also, we discussed upcoming activities,” Darchiashvili said.

According to the Georgian MFA, the report was approved at the 18 April meeting of the country’s EU Integration Commission, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. It consists of 35 chapters detailing efforts carried out as part of the integration with the EU over the past year.
