FM expects EC's fair, merit-based decision on Georgia's candidate status
The Georgian government expects a fair and merit-based decision from the European Commission when assessing the enlargement package and Georgia’s candidate status this autumn, said Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili when reporting to the parliament within Minister’s Hour format.
Ilia Darchiashvili spoke about the historic decision of granting Georgia European Perspective and the steps made for the 12-point priorities fulfilment.
“Candidate status, which Georgia deserved even last year, will be yet another historic decision that will formally strengthen our positioning on the European integration path, contribute to depolarization in the country, and be the key determinator for maintaining peace and stability,” he said.
The FM went on to say that Georgia remains a leading reformer country in the Eastern neighbouring region and continues to take consistent steps for institutional and legislative harmonizing with the EU.
Also, according to the FM, Georgia has fulfilled 50% of its commitments per the Association Agreement. He emphasized the importance of the international community in the European integration aspirations.
Ilia Darchiashvili underscored that Georgia actively cooperates with partners and will continue working in the Georgia-EU bilateral and multilateral format to mobilize political support for Georgia.
