FM Botchorishvili states MFA is neither NGO nor local branch of int'l organization to consult with anyone

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is neither a non-governmental organisation nor a branch of an international organisation to consult with anyone about the country’s needs or the structure of its foreign ministry,” Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, emphasised during a conversation with journalists.

According to the Minister, the ongoing reorganisation of the ministry is a necessary process aimed at safeguarding the country’s national interests and strengthening the foreign service. Therefore, she regards any criticism of this process as inappropriate.

“The goal of these reforms is to make the Ministry of Foreign Affairs more effective and better equipped to represent and protect our national interests abroad in this evolving global landscape. We require an efficient system that operates both locally in Tbilisi and internationally through embassies in key capitals. This, of course, involves optimising the use of existing resources and creating a system that provides the younger generation with meaningful opportunities to enter public service in a competitive environment and serve their homeland,” said Maka Botchorishvili.
