“There is a positive dynamic in the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We believe we have strong prospects on the path to peace. We have come a long way and are committed to continuing this progress successfully,” stated Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
Bayramov emphasised that Azerbaijan expects certain steps from Armenia, including the abolition of the informal group.
“During our discussions, we also addressed broader regional challenges and global processes affecting us. I provided my colleague with information on developments following the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict and recent events. On July 10, in Abu Dhabi, leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia held a meeting and negotiations, resulting in positive momentum. We believe our prospects for peace are very favourable. A significant journey has been undertaken, and we aim to continue this path successfully.
However, certain steps are essential to complete this process, and we look to Armenia to take them. We hope Armenia adopts a serious approach and refrains from holding a referendum that threatens Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Additionally, steps must be taken to dissolve the informal group. We will also discuss measures and developments following the conflict, including the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. We have also reviewed related processes.
Simultaneously, I provided the Minister with updates on the ongoing reconstruction of liberated lands and the return of our refugees. The threat of mines remains a significant danger in this process. We understand that normalisation is a gradual journey that cannot be achieved overnight. Restoring trust between our societies requires deliberate and appropriate measures.
I want to once again thank Georgia for initiating the important meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers from our three countries in Tbilisi. I believe today’s discussions and negotiations will be crucial for advancing and deepening our friendly relations to a new level of strategic partnership. Once again, I extend my gratitude to the Minister and invite you to visit Azerbaijan,” said Bayramov.
