Finance Ministry vows Georgia pursues tight monitoring over all types of customs operations at border

Georgian Finance Ministry on Monday anew “categorically” declared that country has been “completely adhering to the established rules from day one when international sanctions were imposed and it has been pursuing tight monitoring over every and all types of customs operations at the border of the country.”

The statement in response to “yet another disinformation disseminated by some media outlets” in recent days on the enforcement of international sanctions by Georgia, the Ministry stated that “every commodity indicated in the list defined by the countries engaged in sanctioning, including the household appliances mentioned in the footage, if and when transported through Georgia are subject to special customs control and are thoroughly inspected.”

“Also, additional inspection applies to the certificates of origin accompanying the commodities, to make sure that Georgia is not used as a means of evasion.

With full responsibility we hereby declare that no case of violation has occurred in view of international sanctions in Georgia, which is evidenced by the statements made by EU and US Ambassadors in their media appearances.

Thus, any entity disseminating accusations towards Georgia on the alleged violation of sanctions, must be presenting the proof of evidence.

Otherwise, it will be deemed that this is an intentional action to harm the reputation of the country by spreading the fake news, which will not remain without a due response from our side,” reads the statement.
