Finance Minister highlights Georgia’s infrastructure progress at AIIB annual meeting

Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili addressed the Business Session of the Board of Governors during the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

In his speech, Khutsishvili highlighted Georgia’s progress in recent years, including the completion of major sections of the East-West Highway, as well as efforts to further develop road, railway, energy and digital connectivity and strengthen energy security and independence.

“This year’s dialogue theme, ‘Infrastructure for Tomorrow: Impact and Innovation,’ reflects a shared understanding that infrastructure is no longer measured solely by the roads, bridges or energy systems we build. Scaling up to deepen and expand services for clients is of utmost importance given existing needs, in order to create infrastructure that connects regions and ensures the smooth functioning of value chains,” Khutsishvili said.

According to the minister, Georgia’s economy has grown by an average of more than 9.3% annually over the past five years. At the same time, the country has maintained all fiscal indicators at safe levels while keeping capital expenditure high.

Khutsishvili also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and dialogue among AIIB member states and enhancing the bank’s role in this regard.

He thanked the government of Qatar and the AIIB team for organizing the forum and congratulated the bank’s new president on the successful conduct of the annual meeting.
