External merchandise trade up 41.2% in January 2022

In January 2022 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 1,110.5 million, 41.2 percent higher to the same period of 2021, Georgia’s National Statistics Office reported.

The exports equaled USD 331.3 million (47.6 percent higher), while the imports stood at USD 779.1 million (38.7 percent higher). The negative trade balance was USD 447.8 million in January 2022 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.3 percent, it noted.

In January 2022 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 82.3 percent. The top partners were Bulgaria (USD 49.6 million), Azerbaijan (USD 46.8 million) and Russia (USD 42.7 million).

The share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 69.2 percent. The top partners were Turkey (USD 141.1 million), Russia (USD 85.9 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 75.2 million).

The share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 70.4 percent. The top trading partners were Turkey (USD 168.7 million), Russia (USD 128.6 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 122.0 million), GeoStat stated.
