External merchandise trade goes up by 18.9% in January-May

In January-May 2023 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 8 362.6 million, 18.9% higher to the same period of 2022,  the National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported.

The exports equalled USD 2 502.9 million (18.6% higher), while the imports stood at USD 5 859.7 million (19.1% higher). The negative trade balance was USD 3 356.8 million in January-May 2023 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.1%.

According to Geostat, in January-May 2023 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 68.2%. The top trading partners were Turkey (USD 1 194.9million), Russia (USD 1 059.9 million) and China (USD 623.3 million).
