Starting from December 14, the law to enforce tightened sanctions on excessive acoustic noise will be enacted, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced during the municipal government meeting.
Kakha Kaladze stated that the existing fines for excessive noise failed to deter violations in residential, real estate, and public/state buildings.
“We understand how important it is for businesses to promote economic activity, but we must not disregard the rights of people whose health or emotional state is negatively affected by noise exceeding permissible levels,” he said.
The new draft has been submitted to the parliament. According to the new law, exceeding the permissible norms of acoustic noise in the first case will lead to a GEL 150 fine for a physical individual and a GEL 1,500 fine for a legal person. If repeated, a physical individual will be fined by GEL 500 and a legal person by GEL 5,000. The third, fourth, and afterwards violations will entail a GEL 1,000 fine for the physical individual and GEL 10,000 for the legal entity.
