Ex-Public Defender urges protesters to stop stone throwing, continue peaceful protest
Former Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria called on the protesters to stop throwing stones [at police, the parliament building] and continue the protest peacefully.
In her address, Lomjaria stressed that the adoption of the People’s Power’s draft laws would “formalize authoritarianism” in Georgia.
Georgians have been protesting for a second day against the so-called Foreign Agents bills that would require non-governmental and media organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as “foreign agents.”
The rally kicked off on Tuesday after the Georgian Parliament passed a first reading of the legislation. To disperse the protesters, the police used tear gas and water cannon against them.
