Ex-President Saakashvili: We must be ready to peacefully protest in streets for days, weeks, or even months
We are not preparing for a revolution. We must prepare for the elections, observe them, and fight for votes, noted Georgia’s jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili when speaking remotely from the Vivamedi clinic during a court session concerning the November 7 case.
Saakashvili stressed the importance of electoral readiness. He insisted that only a complete victory for the Georgian people would be acceptable.
“Once the rigged results are announced – and they will be rigged – we, hundreds of thousands of people, must be ready to peacefully protest in the streets for days, weeks, or even months. A few thousand police officers cannot obstruct our path to victory. There are millions of us. We must be ready to defend ourselves and celebrate our victory,” Saakashvili said.
The jailed ex-President suggested that the ruling party’s fear of losing power and resources contrasts with the opposition’s fear of losing the country and loved ones forced to leave.
“We will not accept any outcome other than the complete victory of the Georgian people. There is no other option. While you prepare for violence and repression, we will stand peacefully until you concede defeat. No other result will be accepted in these elections except for the complete victory of the Georgian people,” Saakashvili declared.
Additionally, Saakashvili highlighted the unprecedented unity among the opposition, noting that all attempts to divide or undermine their cohesion had failed.
“The opposition has never been so united. Unity is crucial,” he added.
