Ex-President Saakashvili slams opposition: ‘Georgia Deserves Better’ is inadequate slogan; ‘greater numbers gather in autumn’ is damaging plan

“‘Georgia Deserves Better’ is a completely toothless and inadequate slogan! It implies that in principle, everything is more or less in order, but that things could be somewhat improved,” writes former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on social media.

As Saakashvili posted, Georgia today has been brought to the very brink of total ruin.

“Have we gone completely blind to what is happening? Georgia today has been brought to the very brink of destruction; it finds itself in a state of extreme degradation and humiliation. We have not only lost our role in the world, which we unquestionably acquired after the Rose Revolution, but we are no longer even leaders within our own region; something that has never happened before in our history. We must therefore speak here not of ‘better’, but of Georgia’s survival and the restoration of its historical greatness.

I find polished, pseudo-democratic rhetoric entirely unacceptable. We need to grasp our historical mission to achieve victory, and advance towards it with bold and resolute steps.

‘We will gather in greater numbers come autumn’ is a deeply damaging plan, at a time when not a single day can be lost in the matter of Georgia’s survival. I wish to appeal to all those who think as I do: let us unite and act,” writes Saakashvili.
