EU's Varhelyi: EU membership questionnaire to be first step

“This is the first step on your European path. We are ready to work with you very fast to deliver the opinion to the European Council as requested,” Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement tweeted after handing over EU membership questionnaire to Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday.

FM Darchiashvili stressed that “by receiving the questionnaire, we have made another major step forward on the path of our people’s national choice – EU integration!”

Georgia officially applied for EU membership on March 3.

The European Council invited the European Commission to submit its opinions on the EU membership applications of Moldova and Georgia on March 11.
