EU officials vow to support Georgia’s future in EU

“Today, the European Council EUCO recognized the momentous opportunity for Georgia’s further European perspective,” High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President EU Commission, Josep Borrell, tweeted.

“Now we will work together on every step of the common way to build Georgia’s future in the EU,” Borrell went on.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola believes “the people of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia look to Europe as their home, their destination because their values are our values: freedom, democracy, and justice. ”

Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, also welcomes today’s European Council decision granting Ukraine and Moldova candidate status and the readiness to grant candidate status to Georgia once the priorities will be addressed.

“We will continue supporting Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia on their European path,” he pledged.

The EUCO decided to recognize the European perspective of Georgia and “is ready to grant candidate status once the outstanding priorities are addressed.” Ukraine and Moldova received the EU candidate status.
