European Integration Committee Chair: EU double standards on enlargement exceed expectations

“We are accustomed to double standards from Brussels, but what we have seen—particularly regarding Ukraine and Moldova—goes beyond all expectations,” said Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

Makhashvili commented on the European Commission’s enlargement assessment document, from which, according to reports, references to corruption and human rights were removed in the cases of Ukraine and Moldova.

“This indicates only one thing: that the European Commission’s apparent goal was not to examine objective, factual circumstances or establish the truth, but rather to use this document for political purposes—to justify its own double standards toward different countries, especially Georgia,” Makhashvili stated.
