European Georgia: Parliament boycott not linked to local elections

The boycott of the 2020 parliamentary elections has nothing to do with the local elections, Gigi Ugulava, a member of the opposition European Georgia Party, said.

Ugulava added, it is not serious to discuss opposition’s participation in the local self-governance elections now.

Ugulava believes the government speculates on this issue. “It is irrational to link the legitimacy of the parliamentary elections with the forthcoming elections,” Ugulava said.

The local self-governance elections will be held in Georgia in the autumn of 2021.
