European Democrats' Vashakidze: We hope elections signify advancement in establishing normal political culture

“I wish to convey my hope that these elections will represent a significant step toward establishing a new and viable political culture,” stated Nikoloz Vashakidze, Chairman of the European Democrats’ Political Council, during his appearance on GPB First Channel’s Debates 2024 program.

“On behalf of the European Democrats, I extend my greetings to our television viewers and, by extension, to all Georgian voters. Together with you, I hope that the upcoming parliamentary elections will usher in positive changes for our entire country and every family. I trust that these elections will enable our society and political landscape to take a meaningful step toward establishing a new, constructive political culture—one where opposing parties can engage with one another and find common ground for the benefit of the nation,” Vashakidze declared.

When asked by the program host about potential collaborations after winning mandates and their main conditions for other parties in forming a coalition government, Nikoloz Vashakidze stated that the party had conducted meetings with potential voters, noting that poll numbers might significantly differ from actual sentiments, and election results could paint a completely different picture.

“We are confident we will achieve solid, positive results in these elections. This feeling and impression stems from our ongoing meetings and consistent contact with our voters. Regarding potential collaboration in a coalition format within parliament, we have consistently demonstrated to both our political partners and the Georgian public that we know how to forge partnerships and can create coalitions. Many successful political projects have been realized through our initiative and participation. Leading up to these elections, we persistently called for the formation of a united front or a unified opposition list to secure a breakthrough and decisive outcome. Unfortunately, that did not materialize. As a result, we are running independently, but we remain open to collaboration,” Vashakidze stated.
