European Council President invites Georgian politicians to meet tonight
European Council President Charles Michel invited all Georgian political forces to meet tonight to relaunch political dialogue. He said he offered to move from facilitation to mediation while speaking at the joint press conference with the Georgian PM.
Charles Michel said he called on all parties to de-escalate and join forces for political dialogue.
“I am deeply concerned about the deepened political crisis in Georgia. The current political crisis and polarization clearly risk and demining Georgia’s hard-won young democracy in this complex region. The political polarization must stop. The government, as any government, should demonstrate responsible leadership and the opposition should also step up to the challenges and engage constructively in the interests of Georgia. I have called on all parties to de-escalate and come together to relaunch the political dialogue. And I have invited them to a meeting tonight. The time has come to move from facilitation to mediation, and, I repeat, to relaunch the political dialogue,” said Charles Michel.
