European Commission Executive Vice President: EU-US Summit to focus on supporting EU’s Eastern partners
Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission said that the EU-US Summit would focus on geopolitical challenges but also on support of the Eastern partners – Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
Executive Vice-President Dombrovskis made an opening statement at the European Parliament plenary debate on the preparation of the G7 summit of 11-13 June and the EU -US Summit.
“We will engage with the U.S. on critical geopolitical challenges, including Russia and China, but also in supporting the EU’s Eastern partners such as Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, strengthening our joint engagement in Western Balkans, and ensuring stability in the Middle East and Africa,” he said.
According to Valdis Dombrovskis, the Summit will be an opportunity for tackling global challenges together. “We will commit to upholding democracy and human rights, to ending the pandemic and addressing global health in general. We will also commit to protecting our planet, and supporting an economic recovery that benefits everyone,” he claimed.
