Eurooptimists political group summarizes one-year parliamentary activity
The opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze provided an overview of the Eurooptimists political group’s activities over the past year at a press conference today.
According to him, during this period, the Eurooptimists registered 25 legislative initiatives in the Georgian Parliament, including three draft resolutions and two proposed changes to the Parliament’s regulations.
“These bills addressed a range of significant issues such as tax reform, reducing Russian influence, enhancing school independence and depoliticization, stabilizing the National Bank, improving the electoral environment, reforming budget procedures for national regulatory bodies, easing certain criminal sanctions, and strengthening parliamentary oversight of executive power.
Our group also submitted 238 parliamentary questions to various state agencies and local governments, with 157 questions directed by Khatia Dekanoidze. Interpellations were conducted five times on the group’s initiative, addressing concerns including the response to the March 7-8, 2023 protests, family and women’s violence policies, the Anaklia deep-water port construction, and the involvement of immigrants in elections.
Furthermore, the Eurooptimists summoned three officials to committee meetings: Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, and the head of the Personal Data Protection Service. Despite the summons, the head of the Personal Data Protection Service did not attend the committee meeting,” Gotsiridze said.
the MP noted that the group prepared four significant studies on topics including emergency assistance issues in regions, state budget employment contracts, demographic challenges due to migration, and delays in opposition bills. In response to these findings, the group utilized various parliamentary tools, including draft laws, resolutions, and media updates, to address the identified issues.
