Eurooptimists' Dekanoidze raises concerns over plan to abolish women's quota
I think Georgian Dream aims to abolish the quota for women in parliament to secure seats for former majority MPs and those who contribute financially to the party, Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of Eurooptimists, told the First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.
Dekanoidze, commenting on the situation, stated that while she understands the ideology of Girchi regarding quotas, she disagrees with the idea that quotas discredit women.
She emphasized that quotas are a temporary measure to ensure gender equality in parliament and are crucial for increasing female representation.
“It is arguably more crucial to reduce barriers rather than prioritizing the abolition of quotas, which were meant to be in place until 2028,” stated Dekanoidze.
