EU to rely on international observers for fairness of October elections, Ambassador says
“We are ready to work with any government that will be selected by the people of Georgia,” stated Paweł Herczyński, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 26.
He emphasized that the EU will rely on international observers to assess the fairness of the elections. “The Georgian government has invited international observers, and we are in contact with the OSCE/ODIHR team, which plans to have a significant number of observers. We also support local civil society organizations like ISFED that will monitor the elections.”
Herczynski acknowledged that if the elections are deemed unfair, the EU would have to consider using its measures, similar to actions taken with other countries, including Belarus, where elections were not recognized due to being stolen. “I sincerely hope that the elections on October 26 in Georgia will be free, fair, and peaceful,” he concluded.
